Lessons Learned

Image
Writing this cookie blog? Was it right or was it wrong? 🤔 3 lessons I will touch on. Baking Tasting Industry We have finally arrived at the last blog post! This is the end of the Shookie Cookie, and we are ending this blog with a good ole' fashion reflection. Looking back to when I first created this blog, I was little apprehensive about the topic. I didn't know to much about cookies, except eating them of course. Nevertheless, I persevered and managed to learn many things from posting on here.  It we take a look back at all the things I've blogged about, I've learned about baking, best kinds of equipment to use, good bakeries to visit, well know pastry connoisseurs, good brands and flavors of cookies, and other things among them.  I went into this thinking I would be just posting about my taste buds , but I have been enlightened about how vast this industry can be and how I can utilize my new knowledge about cookies.  On the other end of t...

Top 5 Future News For Cookies

Image
The Oracle speaks of the future.. .. Specifically for this blog, we will be taking a ride into the (possible) future and see what plans could be in store for the world of baked goods! Here we go! Trend #1 --  Pan-Banging Cookies Trend #2 --  Coarse Sea Salt Trend #3 --  Stuffed Cookies Trend #4 -- Waste Not Trend #5 -- For Breakfast Now to get into some explanation!  Pan-banging cookies has become a trend among bakers! When fresh cookies are removed from the oven, the hot pan should then be slammed against the counter to create a new and interesting texture for the finished cookies. This was used by  Sarah Kieffer , A well known blog runner and author in the field of fresh baked cookies. This could be the next big thing! Coarse Sea Salt has also been taking the baking world by storm because people are putting it on cookies!!! Often time people use this kind of salt for steaks , not pastries. It's becoming an infamous idea to sprinkle this ...

FAQ Post!!!

Top Ten (possible) Frequently Asked Questions Why did you pick cookies as the topic of your blog? 🤔🤔 I picked cookies for two reasons. One, being that it, for the most part, has been very easy to post content about cookies. I mean only a handful of people don't like them. Second , I panicked when being asked to pick a topic and that was the first thing that popped into my brain. I had to rationalize it later.       2. If you aren't passionate about cookies, what are you passionate about? That's an excellent question! I will post more links about ways to get to know me better, but in short I am passionate about many things. I love to write and read; stories make me happy. I also really love advocating for LGBT things. I am in the MATA group, which does work with Transgender Awareness and support. The last really big thing I love is music, the way it speaks to people, is incredible. Anyway, those topics I felt would be hard to blog about because t...

Cooky Cookie Comparisons

Image
For this blog post, I have quite a fun bunch of information to share! My task was to compare two things that are related to my topic of cookies. Thus, I figured with Thanksgiving at the end of this week, what better thing to compare than baking the cookies themselves! My mother and I went head to head in a BAKE OFF. We each scoured the internet for the most interesting cookie recipes the world had to offer and we picked Crinkle Cookies!   These decadent cookies are  double chocolate cookies rolled in powdered sugar. What’s not to love?! Easy. Fudge-y. Delicious!  Something that most people don't know about me is that I can't cook at at all. I have the black thumb of baking. So when comparing my mothers cookies to my own we made many observations about our differences. First in foremost, one big difference between my mothers cooking and my own was how we made the dough. I've always stirred most things with just my muscle and a spoon. However, it would seem ...

OUTRAGEOUS!

Image
W elcome back to the shookie cookie blog, and today this blog post will my reaction to some news I saw recently! The New York times posted an article earlier this month on  T he Rounds , a new cookie made in Brooklyn, at the Restaurant Pilotworks. The owner was going to release these cookies for sale in the restaurant but suddenly they were forced to close indefinitely. You would think that the pastry would stop there, but when the chef found a new independent kitchen to sell her cookies, and soon after they started sweeping the city. The Rounds are a soft, circular, buttery cookie that is coming in very interesting flavors. The flavors are  Parmesan-olive, Cheddar-chive and anchovy-scallion!  What the hell? Some other notable  weird cookie flavors  are Avocado, Chile, Banana, or Olive Oil. These cookies stemmed from the idea that the ingredients we cook with we should also be aloud in baking recipes as well. This kind of baking, while celebrat...

New Month? Lets talk about the Product of the Month!  ðŸŒŸ⭐ I'll be expecting lots of  'oohs' and 'ahhs'  While there were lots of great options out there for this month, I have made the best choice to picking milk! Specifically Fairlife white milk! It is an amazing product that not only goes great with cookies, but is lactose free!  The founders, Mike and Sue McCloskey started with a dream. They not only have strict way of treating their cows and farms, they also believe in  high quality, great tasting, and nutritious milk. The dairy company has been under fire for some time now, with lots of people claiming that dairy is scary . There are lots of stories that are crushing and heartbreaking. To learn about how the cows could potentially be treated is very motivating for not drinking milk! However, Fairlife is the best kind of different! As taken straight from their website, the co-founder Mike McCloskey started his career as a cow veter...

Trends and Treats!

Image
It's time for a post I'd like to call Trends and Treats!  Lets discuss a trend I recently found on Instagram called procrasibaking. The New York Times did an article on it in May of this year about how creative people can have this tendency to procrastinate doing important things. (duh) But, what they found is that often people will bake to put off doing the things they need to do. This started a really fun hashtag where people took to social media to share the things they guiltily baked out of procrastination! For some fun, head on over to Instagram and check out some of the tasty things people have whipped on a whim.  Anyway moving forward, I wanted to discuss what this kind of thing could mean for regular people like you and I. For some, this idea of baking while procrastinating could be demonstrably bad.  Tim Pychyl , a professor of psychology as Carleton University in Ottawa says, " Procrastibaking is an unconsciously deployed strategy that makes us f...

First Cookie Review!

Image
First Cookie Review! Hey everyone, one thing I wanted to clarify about my reviews before I get started! The  cookies I will be reviewing are going to be slightly more unique then your average chocolate chip cookie. All my cookies will be ones that you might not typically buy, simply because you'd have no idea what the flavor would taste like! Lets explore the worlds cookies together! S o the first cookie I have decided to review is the Chips Ahoy Chewy Reese's Cup Cookies :)  At first glance, the cookie has a pretty average appearance. There are brown splotches for the Reese's haphazardly spread throughout the cookie and the cookie itself seems to also have a dark brown chocolate dough.  As noted previously, this the sub brand of Chip Ahoy known as Chewy cookies. They are the type of cookie that doesn't have the crunch and crumble structure of a regular Chips Ahoy cookie. It's soft and if you broke it into two pieces it would offer no resistance and break rath...
